Before & After-care
Proper preparation before your tattoo, and care afterwards, is key to achieving the best possible outcome.

Eyebrow Tattoo
Before-care
-
It is recommended to eat something before your appointment to make sure your blood sugar levels stay stable during the procedure
-
Please do not wear any makeup (at least on and around your eyebrow area)
-
Avoid alcohol for 24 hrs before your appointment. Alcohol can thin the blood, which can cause the skin to be hypersensitive and bleed easily.
-
Avoid blood thinning medications for 72 hrs before your appointment. This includes ibuprofen, aspirin and fish oil tablets. Please consult your doctor if this is an issue.
-
Make sure your face is not sunburnt
-
Do not get brows waxed or tinted for 2 weeks prior to your appointment
-
If considering Botox, it is best to have your brow tattooing done first. If having Botox before your treatment, please do this at least 2 weeks before your appointment
-
If you have been taking acne medications such as Accutane or Retin-A within the last year you have an altered skin condition that will not heal well after the procedure. It’s very important that you wait a year before tattooing the skin. Retinol and Vitamin A are very similar and should be discontinued to use a month prior to the procedure.
Eyebrow Tattoo
After-care
After the procedure, gently dab the area with a cotton pad, dipped in cooled boiled water to absorb excess lymph fluid. Do this every few hours or as often as you can for 24 hours. Removing this fluid prevents hardening of the lymphatic fluids. Do not apply aftercare cream 24 hours as the wound needs to close naturally first.
Day 2 - 7 apply a very small amount of aftercare cream with a cotton swab and spread it across the treated area. Be careful not to over-apply, as this will suffocate your skin and delay healing. The cream should be barely noticeable on the skin. Do this twice a day for dry/normal skin or once a day for oily skin.

-
Keep your tattoo as dry as possible for the first 7 days
-
Avoid hot, sweaty exercise for the first 7 days
-
Avoid long, hot showers for the first 7 days
-
Avoid sleeping on your face for the first 7 days
-
Do not put skincare, makeup or sunscreen on your brows for the first 7 days. Try and stay out of the sun or wear a hat for sun protection instead
-
Avoid face-down swimming and hot tubs for the first 14 days
-
Avoid direct sun exposure or tanning for 4 weeks
-
No facials, botox, chemical treatments or microdermabrasion for 4 weeks
-
Do not rub, pick or scratch the treated area. Let any scabbing or dry skin exfoliate away naturally. Picking can cause scarring or loss of colour
-
Once healed, do not apply any retinol or exfoliating serums near your brows (keep at least 1cm away) as these products will fade your brows
-
To ensure the longevity of your new eyebrows, apply sunscreen every morning as part of your new daily routine

-
If you wear waterproof mascara, please discontinue use 2 weeks prior to your appointment.
-
Eyelash growth serums like Latisse bring extra circulation to the area which results in more growth of hair/lashes. This can cause the skin in that area to be hypersensitive and bleed easily. It is recommended to discontinue the use of these products at least 3-6 months before your treatment.
-
You may like to take an antihistamine tablet before your procedure. This can help reduce the swelling and watery eyes during the treatment. Consult with your pharmacist or doctor first.
-
Contact lenses need to be removed for this procedure and should not be replaced for a minimum of 2 hours after. It is advised to bring a pair of glasses for the drive home or arrange transport.

Lip Tattoo
Before-care
-
Please ensure to drink plenty of water 3 days prior to your procedure to ensure that you are sufficiently hydrated.
-
Please exfoliate your lips gently with a toothbrush 3 days prior to your procedure to ensure we're not implanting pigment into dead lip tissue.
-
Moisturise continuously with lip balm for a week leading up to your appointment
-
It is recommended to eat something before your appointment to make sure your blood sugar levels stay stable during the procedure.
-
Please do not wear any lipstick to your appointment. But bring along your favourite colour to show us if you like.
-
Avoid alcohol or any caffenated drinks for 24hrs before your appointment. Alcohol and caffeine thins the blood, which causes the skin to be hypersensitive, and bleed/ bruise easily.
-
Avoid blood thinning medications for 72hrs before your appointment. This includes ibuprofen, aspirin and fish oil tablets. Please consult your doctor if this is an issue.
-
If you have a history of cold sores, please get a script from your doctor for Aciclovir 800mg which must be taken 3 days prior and 3 days post your lip procedure.
-
You may like to take an antihistamine tablet before your procedure. This can help reduce the swelling. Consult with your pharmacist or doctor first.
-
If considering lip fillers, it would be best to have your lips tattooed first and your fillers injected after. If you implant colour too soon you will be implanting colour above the natural line. When the lips shrink and return to normal size, the lip line will be off.
Lip Tattoo
After-care
24 hours post procedure - every hour use a damp cotton pad with cooled boiled water and lightly wipe the area to clean off lymph discharge. Removing this fluid prevents hardening of the lymphatic fluids. Lips might be slightly swollen and tender. You can apply an icepack, take an antihistamine or a pain killer to reduce swelling and soothe the area.

-
Post 24 hours start applying a very thin layer of aftercare balm as often as required. Do this for the first 10 days. This will help to hold the colour in
-
Always apply your aftercare balm before showering to protect your lips from the water
-
Do not pick, wipe or lick lips. They will exfoliate on their own, usually after 3-4 days
-
Avoid greasy, spicy and oily foods as well as citrus fruits and juices for the first 7 days as this can change the lip colour
-
Do not use citrus/fruit based lips balms or lipstick until your lips are completely healed (approx. 4 weeks)
-
Be careful when cleaning your teeth for the first 7 days. Toothpaste can pull the pigment colour out of the lip vermilion
-
No kissing or direct water for 3 days (drink through a straw)
-
Please continue to use Aciclovir 800mg for 3 more days if you are prone to cold sores

NUMBING CREAM

***PLEASE READ CAREFULLY***
Topical anaesthetics (numbing creams) are strictly controlled by Australian government regulations, stating your technician is not allowed to supply it. This means that you are required to purchase your own numbing cream if you wish to use it for your treatment. We HIGHLY recommend you do.
Natasja Egly Cosmetic Tattooing is registered with Keperra Compounding Pharmacy. They have a very easy online ordering system. Simply use the link and password provided and fill out their Patient Care Checklist. The numbing cream will then be sent directly to our clinic. The cost of this is $39.90, including postage. You will only need to purchase this once as it is enough for your initial appointment and touch-up appointment.
Alternatively, you can call them on (07) 3354 3992 and arrange it over the phone.

IMPORTANT REMINDER
Due to Infection Control regulations, only the patient and the technician are allowed inside the treatment room. Cosmetic Tattooing is a sterile procedure and requires a high level of concentration. Please do not bring along your partner, friend or children. Thank you for your understanding!
